Wild Weeks for a Wild Woman

It's been a busy week or so around our pond. My husband is off to Maryland on a mini-deploment called DET. I always think of it as a DEBT because we have to fork out the extra expenses and rarely see the per diem promised us. (She bitterly explains and rapidly moves on)

The day he left I pulled some macaroni and cheese out of the microwave for my daughter and promptly dropped it. Rather than jumping back like I normally do, I attempted to catch it. I suceeded, but the boiling water spilled all over my arm. I finally made it to the emergency room (after having to get gas because we were on empty) and was bandaged up. I had 2nd degree burns all over my right arm and wrist.

I was blessed with a rapid recovery. Shortly after this I took Miss S for her year check up. She's fantastic. She's still in the 90th percentile for her height and weight. She's walking, talking, and doing all sorts of cute baby things. She flirted with the lab tech. who did her blood draw until all of the sudden he poked her. Then she wasn't his friend anymore and made that known. Not even a SpongeBob sticker made her feel better. Miss S is 100% woman, I'm proud to say.

The very next day we went camping. Not just any camping, mind you, but to an SCA event. My youngest brother worked tirelessly to make chemises for us girls. He ended up with 3 chemises and 3 over dresses all in 24 hours. They were fantastic, too. I wish I had pictures, but my camera is in MD with hubby. Brother dearest has pictures, I just have to sneak them from him. (Insert evil laugh)

This SCA event was being held in Granite Falls. A moldy little town that you can't get to from here. I mapquested the address and got lost. I called for directions, and got lost. I was about to swear that town didn't exist. That was when we pulled out a map and did it ourselves, once again proving that technology isn't master... yet.

Friday was beautiful. The perfect autumn day in Western Washington. We were able to set up camp quickly and let the kids run free and wild. The next day started with a little drizzle, but no true Washingtonian is afraid of drizzle. We saw archers and the trebuchet demonstrations. We walked the merchants and I bought a Christmas present for my mom. Miss M became tired by the time we hit Merchant's Row, and was down right impossible shortly after. I took her back to camp and she played and played... until it began to rain. It poured and poured, then rained, and poured some more. Everything was wet and muddy. That didn't stop us from having a good time, though. We firehopped and visited with other SCA members and saw the fire dancers. They are amazing, especially in the rain. It rained alllllll night long and alllll the next day. The event ended Sunday, so we just rolled everything up in a big wet, muddy ball, shoved it in the car, and drove. Naturally, it was sunny when we got home. Brother dearest and I dumped everything on the patio to be dealt with later. I'm still doing laundry 3 days later and the tents are still wet and muddy. Tomorrow it's supposed to rain again.

Today, just before Miss M was supposed to go to preschool (which she calls pretty school, isn't that the cutest?!?!) I noticed Miss S looked funny. Half her face was red. I put her in a cool bath and got her some benadryl, thinking it was an allergic reaction to something. It wasn't long after the bath that her face began to swell up. It was at that point I rushed her to the ER. Yes, it was an allergic reaction. Probably to something when we were camping. It could be anything really. Nonetheless, she has hives. Her poor little eye is so red and puffy. I feel so bad everytime I look at her, she's just so miserable. I'm under strict orders to continue the Benadryl every 6 hours for 3 days. Three days of a doped up baby. I know it doesn't sound bad, but Miss S is a busy baby. She wants to be moving and playing, but just can't do it. This makes for a cranky Miss S.

Margaret missed pretty school. I'm more heartbroken over it than she is. Since daddy left, she's been having a hard time coping with pretty school. She always has fun, but there is drama when I drop her off and she is relieved when I come to pick her up. For those of you out there who say, "Oh, just drop her off and leave. Don't make a fuss," I say to you, "Yeah, you try that with my kid and we'll see what happens. I dare you." Miss M is a spitfire, I tell you what!

So that's been the last week or so for us. Crazy, as usual. I like to keep things interesting, I guess. I'm slightly haunted by two things my mom said. One- "It's always something with that girl (me)!" Two- "Whoever Becca marries will never be bored."

Here's to a eventful existance! Cheers!
